First Nations are often driven to casino operation, as this entertainment possibility offers them the chance to support their own community and guarantee employment for members of their families. Now the County of Wetaskiwin announced it is ready to see development in the Highway 2 area that could see the introduction of a First Nations casino venue in the region.
When it comes to the launch of a brand new business, it is safe to say that the most important factor is location and constant customer traffic. In this sense, a casino venue is ideally positioned near a main road, as to ensure that there are people constantly passing by it. There is also the municipality factor that could see people from neighboring communities travel to the casino venue and later on reap the benefits in the form of gaming revenue allocations.
New First Nations Casino Could Launch Soon
The County of Wetaskiwin wants to indicate that it is ready to welcome new operation in the Highway 2 area, as it is considered being a gold mine for gaming revenue and more. This is going to be further facilitated by the recent update of the existing Commercial and Industrial Development in the Highway 2 Corridor Policy.
It would aim to allow future operation in the area, as it is an underdeveloped one and it deserves more attention. According to the estimations featured in the ongoing conversation, for the time being, some 1,350 cars make their way to Highway 611 into Maskwacis. This figure could see a surge once the area welcomes new businesses and a potential casino venue operation overseen by the local First Nations.
The gaming venue that could see the light of day in the future could be built in the Bear Hills area and provide many of the First Nations members with a steady income and reliable employment. The community is also going to benefit from the mandatory gaming revenue allocations mandatory for both commercial and tribal casino operation.
Highway 2 Would Bring Casino Patrons
The casino venue could be constructed between Maskwacis and the highway. Before this happens, however, the highway would have to see a new access point that would make it easier for vehicles to reach the venue. It should be taken into account that this is going to guarantee the First Nation an equal right for development and supporting the area.
Highway 2 is a preferred main road and more than 20,000 vehicles utilize it on a day-to-day basis. Local officials are optimistic that this would help any business that launches operation in the region. This is the natural direction of development outside of the urban area. A casino venue would mandate rezoning which was also taken into consideration at the recent officials meeting.
It could be recalled that back in 2007, the two neighboring First Nations Samson and Louis Bill were both determined to launch tribal casino operation in the vicinity of Hobbema. Back then the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission advised them to collaborate, but this was not accepted as a solution. Samson First Nation proposed to build the CA$50-million Red Willow Casino complex with adjacent hotel tower.
